Better Jobs Ontario is a Government of Ontario program that helps eligible individuals gain new skills for occupations that are in demand. Through approved training programs and financial assistance, the program is designed to support people who are preparing for a new career or returning to the workforce.

Better Jobs Ontario supports eligible applicants by providing:
Career-focused skills training
Financial assistance for approved education and training
The objective of the program is to help eligible individuals prepare for sustainable employment in occupations with strong labour market demand throughout Ontario. Training may include both shorter certificate programs and longer diploma programs, depending on the applicant's approved training plan.
Depending on the approved application, funding may be available for:
Programs lasting 52 weeks or less, including eligible micro-credential programs
Programs lasting up to two years
Applicants may receive financial support of:
Up to $28,000 for approved training lasting one year or less
Up to $35,000 for approved programs exceeding one year and up to two years

What Can the Funding Cover?
Funding is based on individual eligibility, financial assessment, and program approval.
Eligibility
Eligibility
Eligibility is determined by Employment Ontario.
You may qualify if you:
- Have been laid off and are currently unemployed.
- Have been laid off and are working only temporary employment while looking for permanent work.
- Have been unemployed for 12 weeks or longer and are part of a low-income household.
Individuals receiving certain income support programs may also be eligible, including:
- Employment Insurance (EI)
- Ontario Works (OW)
- Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)
Meeting these conditions does not automatically guarantee approval. Every application is assessed individually.

Applying for Better Jobs Ontario
Applications are submitted through an Employment Ontario service provider.
Employment counsellors can help you:
- Determine whether the program is appropriate for your situation
- Understand eligibility requirements
- Complete your application
- Prepare the required supporting documentation
Applicants are encouraged to contact an Employment Ontario office in their community to begin the application process.

You will also complete a financial needs assessment, which may include information about:
- Tuition and education-related costs

Training Institution
Choosing a Training Institution
As part of the application process, applicants generally research multiple training providers to compare available programs.
This research typically includes:
- At least one publicly funded College of Applied Arts and Technology
- At least one registered Career College
- Additional institutions offering the required training
Employment Ontario reviews the proposed training plan and generally supports the most cost-effective option that aligns with the applicant's career goals.
